SFS chairman Jacob Färnert responds to the debate article as Fredrik Kopsch, chief economist at the think tank Timbro, wrote in Sydsvenskan that tuition fees should be introduced in higher education.
SFS believes that everyone, regardless of their parents' income, should have a fair chance to study at universities and colleges.
Tuition fees would be scary away children to low-educated parents with lower incomes. Competition for educational places would decrease. The student group would become more homogeneous, but also perform worse. Therefore, tuition fees would be harmful from both a fairness perspective and a quality perspective.
