The debate about what the rules for residence permits should look like in the future has been a current topic in recent times. Today, we write in SFS and SFS-DK together with SULF that the maintenance requirement is very poorly adapted to the situation of doctoral students and researchers. We will also this afternoon publish a blog post in English that explains the regulations and goes into more detail what the situation looks like. Read an excerpt from the debate article below and in its entirety here.
Today, about 40 percent of all doctoral students and about 75 percent of all with so-called merit employment (an employment you have within a certain time after the doctoral degree) in Sweden have a foreign background. They are an extremely important resource for Sweden's future research. The fact that we can keep them in Sweden is therefore crucial for the supply of skills both at our universities and in other activities.
