Students go back SEK -326 every month shows “SFS student budget 2017”

Today, “SFS student budget 2017” is released and it confirms what we have said for many years: The study grant is too low and must be increased. Students go back SEK -326 every month + all hidden costs.

For many years, we have released the student budget to make it clear that the study grant is too low. In addition to a monthly budget, this year we also highlight examples of hidden costs, varying housing costs and that many students need to work extra.

We are well aware that the calculations we have made in the monthly budget are based on averages. In fact, students' finances are very varied, depending on, among other things, place of study and hidden costs within the education. However, “SFS student budget 2017” provides a credible picture of everyday life for many students and we can state that when the study grant cannot be lived on, higher education is not possible for everyone.

Our views to the responsible Minister Anna Ekström are clear: Increase the study grant - increase the grant to promote broadened recruitment and one hundred percent participation!

We hope that the Minister will meet with us during a meeting to discuss the study grant and the situation for the country's students and the country's future students.

Caroline Sundberg, chairman

Info about the material

"SFS student budget 2017" is a compilation of an average student's expenses for a month. In the calculations, it is assumed that the student does not have any functional variations or illnesses that involve extra expenses for, for example, aids or medicines. Not all household costs are included in the calculations. For example, costs for other travel, health care, glasses, gifts, holidays, parties, alcohol, tobacco and games are not included. SFS has released a student budget every year since 2006.
