Background
The Higher Education Appeals Board is a separate authority whose task is to hear appeals against certain decisions within the area of universities and higher education institutions, within the field of vocational education and training, and decisions on qualifications according to the Regulation (2015:545) on the Framework of Reference for Qualifications for Lifelong Learning. Which decisions may be appealed are regulated in laws and regulations decided by the Riksdag and the Government.
The committee handles over 3,000 cases per year, the vast majority of which concern admissions to the university. The cases are handled by staff at the University Chancellor's Office (UKÄ), which is the ÖNH host authority, and are decided by the committee at meetings that are usually held once a month.
The committee consists of eight members when examining cases within universities and colleges and the university of applied sciences, and ten members when examining cases concerning qualifications according to the Regulation on the Reference Framework for Qualifications for Lifelong Learning. The chairman must be or have been a regular judge and a student representative is included in the committee.
About the mission
The committee has approximately 11 meetings per year, and a morning is set aside for each meeting. The meetings are usually held as hybrid meetings. Reading is added and supporting documents are sent out approximately one week before the meeting.
For the assignment on the committee, a fee of SEK 1,900 is paid per meeting day.

Representing students on the appeals board is fun, scary, frustrating, satisfying, and so much more – as varied as the students whose cases we handle.
We are looking for
SFS has been asked to nominate a student representative to the Appeals Board for the university, for the period January 1, 2027 – December 31, 2029. SFS nominates, and the members are then appointed by the government.
You who apply should be a student, and we would like you to be one for a large part of the term of office. The assignment requires the ability to make independent and well-balanced assessments, confidence in raising and representing the student perspective in matters that may have great significance for individual students, and the ability to familiarize yourself with laws and regulations.
