The Iranian news agency ISNA announced on May 4 that Swedish-Iranian academic Dr. Ahmadreza Djalali will be executed no later than May 21.

– We condemn the Iranian government's sentence against Ahmadreza Djalali in the strongest possible terms. SFS demands that Foreign Minister Ann Linde and the Swedish Ministry of Foreign Affairs do everything in their power to have him released. We demand that the death sentence against Djalali be overturned and that the Iranian government immediately release Ahmadreza, says Linn Svärd, chair of SFS.

Ahmadreza Djalali has been in prison since 2016 after being arrested by Iranian intelligence. The arrest took place during a conference trip to Iran. He was accused of espionage and sentenced to death in 2017. He was previously a researcher at the Karolinska Institute.

SULF and the Karolinska Institute have previously spoken out against the ruling.
