SFS welcomes government decision: Monthly calculation of housing allowance introduced

Last week, the government announced that The Social Insurance Agency is tasked with preparing the introduction of a monthly calculation of housing allowance, in accordance with the BUMS inquiry's (SOU 2021:101) previous proposal.

This is an important win for the country's students. When the new system is in place, the risk of recovery will be reduced, and more students who are entitled to housing allowance will dare to apply for the support. This is especially welcome in light of the rent increases that have put pressure on many students' finances in recent years.

SFS, together with many others, has long been pushing the issue of a fairer and more realistic calculation of housing benefit - so that those with unpredictable future incomes are not affected.

– A win for Sweden's students after hard work. Finally some student focus for this government, comments SFS chairman Rasmus Lindstedt.
