Today I am writing in Göteborgs-Posten together with the Studentbostadsföretagen about student housing, study checks and that student housing needs to go to students. Read an excerpt below and the article in its entirety here
Student housing should be the fast-moving part of the housing market, which can offer a home shortly after the student has received their admission notice. This is often not the case today. Despite an improvement in recent years, there is still a housing shortage in most study locations at the start of each autumn semester, and in the larger study locations the situation is tense all year round. Concerns about the possibilities of finding housing can affect both mental health and study results and cause some to give up their dream education. To solve the housing shortage for students, we need to free up housing for new students. Unlawful residence after completing studies is unfortunately a widespread problem and the problem is greatest in cities where the regular housing market is particularly difficult.
