On May 8-10, 2026, almost 200 student union activists gathered in Skövde to hold the Swedish National Union of Students' General Assembly, SFSFUM.

During the three days of the meeting, delegates discussed and debated over 70 motions and interpellations, elected elected representatives, and set SFS's direction for the coming fiscal year.
Host city and inauguration

SFSFUM was held in Skövde, which was named Student City of the Year 2025. The meeting was held at the Skövde Cultural Center, and the delegates were welcomed by the chairwoman of the city council Monica Green, the university's president Muriel Beser Hugosson, and the student union chairman Niklas Korshöj.
SFS is growing

During the meeting, the Pharmaceutical Student Union, Farmis, at Uppsala University, was granted membership in SFS, and is now rejoining after leaving in 2005. Farmis has been one of SFS's most active member unions during the year. It is a great strength for the student movement that SFS is growing in number despite the fact that the conditions for student unions continue to weaken.
The student movement's political priorities

SFSFUM is the highest decision-making body of SFS, and determines the organization's political direction and operational priorities. The members' adopted operational plan instructs the board to continue working on the most pressing issues for the student movement. Among other things, SFS will continue to work to increase resources for higher education, and to ensure that Swedish students are given a greater degree of academic freedom. SFS will also continue to work for increased funding for student unions, and to improve the material conditions of Swedish students.
Opinion program

During the meeting, the SFS opinion program was also revised. Members voted in favor of motions that clarified SFS's views on the role of students in total defense, students' opportunities to get involved as student representatives, and demands for increased teacher-led time.
New elected officials

SFSFUM elected the new elected representatives for the fiscal year, who will take office on July 1, 2026, including a new board consisting of:
- Anitra Gudmarsdotter – Student Union in Sundsvall
- Elin Strömberg – Student Union at University West
- Felix Köhler – Umeå Student Union
- Gustav Heldt – Student Union of the University of Technology (re-election)
- Hampus Haugland – Göta Student Union (chairman)
- Jonathan Strömberg – Karlstad Student Union
- Linus Holmström – Blekinge Student Union (re-election)
- Saga Pettersson – Social Sciences Union at Lund University
- Victor Holmström – Umeå Student Union (re-election of the board, new election of vice-chairman).
During the meeting, new auditors and a new nomination committee were also elected.
Thanks

Mimmi Garpebring is stepping down after serving as meeting chair for the past ten years. SFSFUM also thanked SFS for its outgoing presidium, Rasmus Lindstedt (chairman) and Charlotta Pettersson (acting chairman), who will step down from their positions on June 30.
