The government's STEM strategy will be pointless without better funding

On Monday, the government presented its new STEM strategyThe strategy highlights several reforms to strengthen the attractiveness of STEM education and mentions a previous effort to increase funding for technical university education.

SFS lacks forward-looking proposals in the STEM strategy. Most higher education is underfunded and teacher-led time in STEM education is far below the European average. In order to improve the quality of education, the government must not be satisfied with previous investments, but must strengthen funding in the future.

SFS advocates an increase of around 50% per student. The erosion over time is so great, the need is so great for quality improvement to actually have an effect.

To strengthen its anchoring in the sector, the new STEM delegation should also be supplemented with a student representative. Otherwise, there is a risk that the delegation's work will not yield results.
