The government has decided that more actors, including student housing agents, will have access to information from the university's study and admissions register electronically. The purpose is to facilitate checking whether a resident is actually a student, something that has not been possible until now. The change will come into effect on August 1, 2025.
SFS has long called for better opportunities to check that student housing goes to students. Stopping cheating and ensuring that student housing goes to active students is crucial, not least in a situation where many students are without housing before the start of the semester.
At the same time, SFS would like to emphasize that this is not a solution to the structural housing shortage among students. Improved control can free up housing, but long-term investments are needed to meet the needs. This includes reintroducing investment support, building more student housing at reasonable rents based on students' finances.
SFS will continue to push for a housing policy that gives all students the opportunity for higher education.
