The Swedish National Union of Students is participating in Almedalen again this year. This year we are organizing four seminars, and participating as panelists in several other events. We will be there from Tuesday afternoon to Friday morning. Please contact us at [email protected] for inquiries about panel participation, or if you just want to meet up. We have a lot to say about everything related to higher education.
SFS's own seminars
WEDNESDAY. Constitutional protection of academic freedom
In collaboration with the Swedish University Teachers and Researchers (SULF), the Swedish Association of Universities and Higher Education Institutions (SUHF), the Young Academy of Sweden (SUA) and Arena for Research and Democracy
Free academia is a cornerstone in maintaining democracy and protecting human rights. Neither current politics, interest groups nor troll factories should control what may be researched or taught at universities. Therefore, academic freedom must be protected, safeguarded and promoted in the constitution.
Wednesday 09:10–10:10, Skeppsbron 24, Joda Bar and Kitchen, "VA's arena", Link to the Almedalen program
THURSDAY. Funding research, funding education: An unnecessary division of two tasks?
Higher education should be research-based, but the funds are divided and earmarked for either education or research. Is there a gap between research and education in the operations as well? Should the government let the higher education institutions redistribute funds in the form of a consolidated or flexible grant?
Thursday 08:00 – 09:00, Building B, Uppsala University, Main entrance Cramérgatan 3, “Room B11”. Link to the Almedalen program
THURSDAY. Instant noodles and part-time jobs – what do student unions think about students' financial situation?
Students' financial situation has been affected by inflation. Some believe that more students should be encouraged to work extra. Others believe that the state needs to increase student funding. How do the parties' student unions think that student funding can be developed?

THURSDAY. Future skills supply – what can we expect from a university on the verge of breaking point?
The business community is sounding the alarm about a skills shortage in areas of social importance, and companies are being forced to suspend recruitment – while higher education is increasingly eroded every year. How is this supposed to work?
