The Swedish National Union of Students is participating in Almedalen again this year. This year we are organizing four seminars, and participating as panelists in several other events. We are there from Tuesday afternoon to Friday morning. Please get in touch [email protected] for panel participation requests, or if you just want to meet. We have a lot to say about everything related to higher education.
SFS' own seminars
WEDNESDAY. Constitutional protection of academic freedom
In collaboration with Sweden's university teachers and researchers (SULF), Sweden's university and college association (SUHF), Sweden's young academy (SUA) and Arena for research and democracy
Free academia is a cornerstone in the maintenance of democracy and the protection of human rights. Neither daily politics, interest groups nor troll factories should control what may be researched or taught at the universities. Therefore, academic freedom must be protected, safeguarded and promoted in the constitution.
Wednesday 09:10–10:10, Skeppsbron 24, Joda Bar and kitchen, "VA's arena", Link to the Almedal program
THURSDAY. Funding research, funding education: An unnecessary division of two tasks?
Higher education must be research-related, but the grants are divided and earmarked for either education or research. Is there a distance between research and education also in the business? Should the government let the universities redistribute funds in the form of a lump sum or flexible grant?
Thursday 08:00 – 09:00, B-huset, Uppsala University, Main entrance Cramérgatan 3, "Room B11". Link to the Almedal program
THURSDAY. Instant noodles and extra jobs - what do student unions think about students' financial situation?
Students' financial situation has been affected by inflation. Some believe that more students should be encouraged to work extra. Others believe that the state needs to raise the tuition fee. How do the parties' student unions think that the study aid can be developed?
Thursday 10:30 – 11:30, B-huset, Uppsala University, Main entrance Cramérgatan 3, "Room B11". Link to the Almedal program
THURSDAY. Future competence supply - what can we expect from a university on the breaking point?
The business world raises the alarm about a skills shortage in socially important areas and companies are forced to suspend recruitment - at the same time that higher education is eroded more and more every year. How is this supposed to go together?
