- The housing shortage for students is a crisis that is growing with each passing year. This year we red-list eleven cities, which is almost twice as many as in 2012. Now we want to put our foot down. It can not continue like this, says Rebecka Stenkvist who is chairman of the Swedish National Union of Students (SFS).

The red list includes large cities such as Stockholm, Gothenburg and Malmö as well as classic student cities such as Uppsala and Lund, but also smaller cities such as Karlskrona, Gävle and Växjö.

With only a few weeks left until the election, Rebecka Stenkvist hopes that the housing report will be a wake-up call for the political parties.

- We have already seen that some parties have promised to build more housing for students, but it is important to be able to fulfill their promises as well. We do not want whale pork, we want somewhere to live, she concludes.

SFS housing report is an annual survey of the housing situation in the country's student cities before the start of the autumn term. The student unions and the largest student housing intermediaries in each city are contacted and assessed according to a number of criteria. SFS criteria are developed to guarantee students a safe and sustainable housing situation throughout their studies.

The following cities end up on SFS 'red list: Gävle, Gothenburg, Karlskrona, Linköping, Luleå, Lund, Malmö, Stockholm, Umeå, Uppsala, Växjö
