Almedalen: Is academic freedom threatened?

How is academic freedom in Sweden? How do we ensure that both research and education are free, and is there a need to protect freedom in the constitution?

Sweden has a good reputation in several respects when it comes to defending academic freedom, ie the opportunity for universities and colleges to independently direct research and higher education. At the same time, some believe that freedom is limited when the supply of higher education is governed by politicians with labor market goals. Others point to an anxious college that is shrinking the opportunities to freely formulate research questions. In addition, there is a worrying development in several European countries where freedom is restricted.
