Dimensioning of postgraduate education is an important issue both for the higher education institutions, the business community and the postgraduate students themselves. Sweden needs doctoral students and doctoral students.

The issue of dimensioning the doctoral program is affected, among other things, by the funding of research and doctoral education and the number of applicant doctoral students. According to a report by UKÄ, the higher education institutions' dimensioning of postgraduate education is affected by the increased external funding. The proportion of Swedes who have started a doctoral program has decreased significantly over the past ten years, while the number of foreign doctoral students has increased, also according to UKÄ. However, this is problematized by the new Aliens Act, which is expected to contribute to Sweden having fewer foreign doctoral students.

SFS now invites to talks to discuss different perspectives on and of the dimensioning. How do the higher education institutions dimension? What is the need for the business community for postgraduate students? What are the political perspectives? And how do the doctoral students view the dimensioning?

There are thus several aspects to bring up for discussion, which leads to the central question: how should and can we dimension postgraduate education?
