During the year, Akademikerförbundet SSR sent a letter to the government stating that several universities and colleges misinterpret the rules that apply regarding trade unions' right to operate in higher education institutions. The issue has also been debated in the media. SSR considers that the student unions, after the abolition of the compulsory union, no longer have the exclusive right to be regarded as an "association for students at the university". SSR believes that trade unions should also be regarded as such an association in terms of the right to access the university's premises, attendance in public spaces, posters and presentations during teaching hours.

SSR further believes that universities (and student unions) obstruct their activities in an improper manner. The government has submitted the letter to the National Agency for Higher Education, which is now investigating the matter. The Swedish National Agency for Higher Education has asked SFS to submit comments. SFS believes that the issue is important in general - it is about the students' common spaces where students study and stay - but that each individual student union has the right to work for what works best at their own university. We therefore ask you to submit your views on SSR's letter.

Your consultation response may be forwarded to the National Agency for Higher Education or used / quoted as an example in SFS consultation response. If for any reason you want to present views without these being linked to your corps, we ask you to clearly mark this in your answer. In such a case, the answer / that part of the answer is not forwarded to HSV. SFS can then refer to what you have presented without stating which corps it is specifically about.

SFS member unions have the opportunity to submit a consultation response no later than Monday 5 September at 12.00 to [email protected]. If you have any questions, contact SFS chair Camilla Georgsson, 08 54 57 01 05, [email protected]. or investigator Frida Lundberg, 08 54 570115
