The Swedish music education field is characterized by strong biased recruitment. From culture school to higher music education. Individuals' social background determines the possibility of training in music. The entrance keys to the educational institutions are very much dependent on the parents' level of education and their own cultural commitment. One of these entry keys is the key to a place on the music teaching program. In order to be admitted to Swedish music teacher training, approved results from a skills test are required, where the applicant must demonstrate their prior knowledge. The exams are based on long-standing traditions, born out of a conservatory culture with normative quality criteria. In a research project, funded by the Swedish Research Council 2019-2022, jury groups' assessment of the applicants in connection with these skills tests was analysed. Monica Lindgren, professor at the College of Stage and Music, University of Gothenburg, was one of the participating researchers. Based on the articles published so far, she will present the project's method and main results, as well as open up questions and discussion.

17:00-18:00 Discussion and networking

Continued discussion on the topic of entrance exams. We will also have time for experience exchange and networking.
