Samtidigt väljer SFS att stödja Fernando M Galán (CREUP, Spanien) och Erin Nordal (NSO, Norge) till vice ordförande för ESU kommande verksamhetsår.
Elisabeth har skrivit en kort text med reflektioner om hennes kandidatur:
Att ha varit vice ordförande för European Students’ Union det senaste året har varit både spännande och utmanande. Men trots de utmaningar som uppdraget har inneburit, så finns passionen för uppdraget kvar.
När jag under förra veckan träffade en lokal studentkår i Portugal blev jag både stolt och glad över att se hur de kämpar och driver frågor samma frågor som vi gör i ESU. Att se hur det vi jobbar med på Europeisk nivå via de nationella studentkårerna även stödjer det som drivs av studenter på gräsrotsnivå är otroligt inspirerande.
Jag är även stolt över det arbete som jag och mina kollegor lagt ner under året. Även om vi uträttat mycket, kommer nästa år om möjligt bli en ännu större utmaning, arbetet som drivits under det här året kommer sättas på prov. Då är det nämligen ministerkonferens för European Higher Education Area, och det är där mycket av den politik vi drivit under året ska antas av Europas utbildningsministrar.
Vi får även nya EU-parlamentariker och en ny kommissionär med ansvar för utbildning, det är avgörande att vi studenter är med och sätter tonen för den politik de kommer att föra. Inte minst med anledning av att frågor som rör utbildning, allt från finansiering till kvalitet och breddad rekrytering, har en stark europeisk dimension.
Jag har under mina år som vice ordförande i ESU, och tidigare SFS samt LUS, haft förmånen att jobba med fantastiska ordföranden som jag sett upp till och lärt mig mycket av. Jag är väldigt glad över de erfarenheterna, och ödmjuk inför det ansvar som de fått bära.
Nu vill jag själv axla den rollen. Med de utmaningar som ligger framför den europeiska studentrörelsen, ber jag nu om att vid ESU:s årsmöte i maj få förtroendet att leda organisationen som ordförande.

The Swedish National Union of Students (SFS) nominates Elisabeth Gehrke as chairperson for the European Students’ Union (ESU). At the same time SFS decides to support Fernando M Galán (CREUP, Spain) and Erin Nordal (NSO, Norway) to ESU vice chairs.
Elisabeth has written a short motivational text that follows:
This is not a long motivational text, there will be time for that later (not really but let’s keep up the pretence). But still, I want to clarify my ambitions in a public context as the discussions are now ongoing. Being one of the vice chairs of the European Students’ Union the last year has been both exciting and challenging. But despite those challenges I can definitely say that my passion for the work remains.
When I last week meet a local student union in Portugal I was both proud and happy to see how they fight for and push issues that we also work with in ESU. To see that the work we do on a European level through our members the national unions of students supports the work done also on the local level is truly inspiring.
I am also very proud of the work that my colleagues and I have done throughout the year. Even if much has been achieved, the year to come will bring even bigger challenges. Soon we will be face to face with the ministerial conference of the European Higher Education Area. At the conference many of the policies we have lobbied for and drafted throughout the year will be put forward for adoption by the higher education ministers of Europe.
We will also have new EU parliamentarians and a new European Commissioner in charge of education, and to say the least it is of paramount importance that students have influence over the policies they will propose. Not least because issues relating to education, from financing to quality and access, have a strong European dimension
I have during my years as vice chair in ESU, and previously in SFS as well as LUS, had the privilege to work with fantastic chairs that I have looked up to and learned a lot from. I am very happy for those experiences and humbled by how they have shouldered that responsibility.
I now want to shoulder that role myself. In the face of the challenges that lie ahead of the European student movement, I will ask the ESU board meeting in the beginning of May for the trust to lead this fantastic organisation as chair.
